Week 3

We had a good week. We swam four times this week. Next week we've changed our swim time to 9:10 am. We will do Jump Jam and then the roll, then we'll zoom over to the pool and swim. That way we can get our fitness out of the way at the start of the day, then get into our work!

The children have been designing their own Rangoli which they will colour this week. Here are some more we have put up on our windows.

Term 4 Week 2

This week Room 5 went on the Goldfields train trip. Thank you to all the parents who came along, and a special thanks to Pippa's Poppy. I thoroughly enjoyed the ride and conversations with you! We read another fable about Belling the Cat. We also started our swim programme, and on Thursday, we made guys... Mr and Mrs Guy Fawkes. We took them along to the Opoutere Fireworks Extravaganza and threw them on the bonfire. They burned up super fast! Because they were the only guys - we also won the competition!!! Free pizza for the whole class from Laurenzos!!!! Well done Room 5!!

Hello Term Four - Week 1

We have done a few exciting things this week already! First we looked at Diwali, the Indian Festival of Lights celebrated in NZ in the New Moon October 26th. The children have all tried their own Rangoli - geometric patterns of colour and symmetry... How fun is maths?! The children are learning to place colour in effective ways to make the patterns stand out. More to come on this!

We are starting to read and investigate the messages of fables. We read the fable The Crow and the Pitcher and the children tried Story Theatre. This is where they sit in a circle and a narrator tells the story and an actor acts it out. We all had a go at this, with much enjoyment had by all! After seeing Ana be the narrator and the whole class acting out a flock of crows, I thought we'd try videoing them. We had many trial runs, discussing voice technique, expression, and speaking clearly. The children decided the fable should be read aloud. Sienna was chosen as our narrator and we trooped out onto the field and gave it a go!

Here they are...

Washing Day Pics..

Room 5's Washing Day

Room 5 is learning about what home life would be without electricity. Last week we washed our own clothes by hand. We had to get into groups, talk about what we were going to do, and get everything ready. We needed sunlight soap, buckets and water – and dirty clothes of course!
We went outside and filled up our buckets at the tap by Room 3. We put our clothes in the water to get them wet, and then we scrubbed them with sunlight soap. Next we rubbed them together to make them foamy. We put them in the bucket of water and pulled them up and pushed them down and pulled them up and pushed them down, over and over!
After that we squeezed them out and put them in a pile and poured our bubbly water out onto the grass. Next we went to the tap again and filled our buckets up with fresh water. Then we rinsed the clothes again by pulling them up and pushing them down. We had to squeeze them out extra tight; some of us needed help to get all the water out. One person held one end, and one on the other and we twisted the clothes to get the water out.
Next we pegged our clothes on the line. It awesome because we didn’t use electricity. It was fun because we could get stains out without electricity. It was fun because the soap made bubbles. Six children from Room 5 have done washing like this at home since we learned to do it at school!!

And we're off!!!

Hi everyone!

Well, here I am at a teacher's ICT workshop in Hamilton and I have been inspired to start a class blog.
So here it is! We will be able to add to it as we go - photos, comments and share your work.  Parents and whanau will be able to join up to 'follow' us, and we can look at other school's blog to see what they are up to as well.

Have Fun!!
